PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.
The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.
The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.
However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.
The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
