Around 25,000 homes in Queensland's southeast found themselves experiencing outages on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, bringing powerful gusts topping 109km/h.

Substantial Hailstones and Broad Damage

Homeowners observed large ice chunks as large as seven centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across the state had been hit with significant hail.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams working to handle the extensive power failures.

Victorian Storm Challenges

Meanwhile, approximately one thousand households in the southern state also experienced energy failures after Melbourne saw its wettest day in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams responded to over five hundred requests for assistance across the state, mostly for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

Hardest Hit Areas

• The Werribee area - saw significant destruction
• Hoppers Crossing - multiple emergency calls
• Wyndham - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At one point on the previous day, more than 28,000 energy customers in the state were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tomorrow was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing thunderstorm potential expected across multiple regions of both regions.

Medical Alert

Public health experts warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This warning comes after past events where analogous circumstances led to major medical consequences in the area.
